KOZLODUY NPP AND EVIC HELD NATIONAL ESSAY COMPETITION

12.11.2020

The national essay competition, organised for the second time by Kozloduy NPP and the Electric Vehicles Industrial Cluster (EVIC) among students from Bulgarian vocational schools, has ended. The initiative was also supported by Kozloduy NPP – New Build, the Bulgarian Nuclear Society and Kozloduy Municipality.

The topic on which the young people wrote was “Nuclear energy – in symbiosis with electric mobility”. Their task was to highlight the benefits of the interaction between two of today’s low-emission technology sectors – nuclear energy and the electric car industry, to address the environmental problems of modern societies and to ensure a greener future on the planet.

17 students from 9th to 12th grade from the cities of Sofia, Varna, Burgas, Gotse Delchev, Svoge, Kozloduy, Sliven and Lom took part in the competition. Their works were evaluated on the basis of several criteria: a clearly formulated author’s thesis in line with the topic, purposeful and in-depth argumentation, well-structured presentation, style and vocabulary.

The analytical and thorough approach and the personal interpretation of the problem brought to the fore the essay of Anatoli Nanov from 9th grade at the Professional High School of Nuclear Energy (PНSNE) “Igor V. Kurchatov” in Kozloduy.

Second place went to Bilyana Emilova – a student in 11th grade from the Vocational High School “Velizar Peev”, Svoge, whose text demonstrated a good selection of facts and excellent style of writing. For her, this is another achievement in the competition – in its previous edition in 2018, when the topic was “My future - innovation, electric mobility and nuclear energy”, her essay earned third prize.

Three other students shared the third place – the graduate Marina Dimitrova from the Vocational School of Tourism “Prof. Dr.  Asen Zlatarov” (Varna) and the ninth-graders Anna-Maria Ivanova from PHSNE “Igor V. Kurchatov ” (Kozloduy) and Diana Karadzhova from the 91st German Language High School “Prof. Konstantin Galabov ” (Sofia).

In parallel with the overall ranking, Kozloduy NPP awarded a special prize. It went to Marina Dimitrova from Varna, whose essay, with the help of scientific facts, reveals in detail and precisely the interrelationships that emphasise the advantages of nuclear energy in the general energy mix.

The awarded participants will receive prizes and diplomas. Letters of thanks from the organisers were sent to the people who supported the young people on their path to success – their teachers and parents.
