Sporting traditions at Kozloduy NPP date back to the beginning of its operation in 1974. The number of sports practiced has been growing throughout the years, gradually forming a well-organised structure that provides optimal opportunities for training and intensive sporting and competition activities. Today, the ‘Parva Atomna’ Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism Club (PCSTC) includes 26 sports sections that unite hundreds of people – plant employees and their families. Some of the most popular sports practiced at the plant are: tennis, table tennis, swimming, volleyball, beach volleyball, football, tug-of-war, petanque, orienteering, athletics, bridge, sports backgammon, basketball, chess, darts, aerobics, badminton, yoga, armwrestling, judo, taekwondo, paintball, etc. For the fans of winter sports skiing vacations are organised every winter in the ski-resort of Borovets. Each month, mountain lovers from the Tourism section visit any of the exciting beautiful places in our mountains. Cyclists also enjoy numerous sporting opportunities – their section organises cycling tours around the country, and, recently, in our neighboring countries as well.
All sports sections have an annual events calendar that includes competitions, training camps, participations abroad, organisation of sporting events. Many of the events in the ‘Parva Atomna’ Club sporting calendar are open to external organisations, clubs and individuals. In most cases, these events are also included in the schedules of the respective sports federations. There is a great interest in the competitions organised and held on the occasion of the Power Engineer’s Day. Traditionally, athletes from the Club participate in the mass participation cross-Danube swim, held in August.
Kozloduy NPP is a holder of hundreds of sports awards in branch, national and international tournaments and competitions in different sports. The team of ‘Parva Atomna’ PCSTC is a complex leader in eleven consecutive editions of the National Field Event of Power Workers since the foundation of the sporting event in 2003. After winning in 2005 and in 2007 the title of World Champion in the First and the Second World Workers’ Sports Games ‘For Peace and Solidarity’, the athletes of Kozloduy NPP came first in all ten successive international sports festivals that took place in the Albena resort, and later in the St. Constantine and Elena resort.
